Astroturf ; Who will shape your destiny?

Evolutionary urge is intrinsic to the human spirit. It is this very inherent urge, which has been carrying forward progressive civilisational evolution down the ages through conscious human efforts. It is again, this very natural impulse in a being, which induces a being dream of making it big in life.  Dreams are necessary for people to reach heights they are capable of, as they offer us with a purpose to work upon with all sincerity and determination.  Since time immemorial, the Moon has fascinated and evoked man’s curiosity. It was seen every day, yet it was unknown. A longing to know and understand it led scientists to send man on the Moon.  But not everybody’s dreams get fulfilled, non-realisation of which often bringing in frustrating experiences. Why? Are we so helplessly fated? I am often confronted with this question. It therefore deserves attention.

For the answer, the question needs to be looked at on three grounds: First, the premise on which the theory of Karma stands. Second, how does Karmic carryover from the past, which defines the course of destiny, come into effect? Third, the chemistry of mind, which drives all actions on the part of a being.

Remember, our life is bound by cause-effect chain. A cause precedes an effect, which in turn, sets the ground over which the next course of action takes off. This way, we invariably remain trapped in the circuitous web of never ending self-created cause-effect chain.  This chain gets carried over even to our successive lives — from one birth to the other — as the theory of reincarnation would imply.

The question now is: Why are only human beings bound by cause-effect chain?  In this context, it is pertinent to note that all living organisms, but for human beings, have no choice than to strictly follow the pre-laid, nature-driven design parameters underlying their existence. They don’t enjoy any scope for making exception. All their actions are primarily guided by their food and security concerns, instinctively arising moment by moment. They lack the faculty of discriminate intelligence, and so are devoid of the capacity of judgment.  Therefore, their acts are not wilful and so, there remains no scope for accrual of any karmaphal.

On the contrary, human beings enjoy the exclusive privilege to guide their action by choice. But, whenever there is choice, it carries equal probability of use and misuse. To overcome this vulnerability, a human being is also armed with the faculty of discriminate intelligence, which enables them to judge the choices in hand, and pick up the right lead. So, all human actions are wilful. Evidently, imperative to this empowerment tool is the call to own responsibility for the choices made.  Ostensibly, therefore, one becomes due for consequences of the choices made. It is on this ground on which the theory of Karma stands, and which holds the key to being beholden to cause-effect chain.

If the above script has a meaning, would it not be fair to reason out that the privilege of making a choice would also carry the scope to make such choices as could interfere with and modify the imprints of doings and un-doings in the past? Particularly when a human being is armed with the faculty to dispassionately weigh his options beforehand.  Now, suppose that a cause is conscientiously created purported to modify the imprints of past doings. Would it not change the course of destiny implications to follow?

To make things clear, it needs to be first understood and underscored that in terms of nature’s design, there remains a continuum in time and space. In this scheme of things, doings in the past culminate in the present moment, which in turn sets the premise on which the next moment takes off. It implies that the present moment carries imprints of doings and un-doings in the past in seed-form, which serves as the blue print of the future course of action to follow. So, the course of life needs to be seen in continuity - not simply the goings in the present life but also the imprints of those carried over from the past. In fact, human course of life, going through all the twists and turns in the way, runs through successive cycles of birth and death. It is something like a water stream emanating from a snow-bound mountain which carries on its run till it meets the ocean. All through the way and also out of the ocean, surface water evaporates, turns into cloud, and then rains, again to recharge the water resources.

The issue continues.
