The Bengal Government has lodged a protest with the Union Home Ministry questioning the centre’s decision to provide State Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar with Central security. The State has reportedly asked the centre to reverse it’s decision saying that Kolkata has sufficiently strong security mechanism to protect the Governor.
The Centre has decided to bring the State Governor under it’s protection with Z-+ Security Cover with a battery of not less than 80 CRPF personal.
"We are also providing Z+category security to the Governor. He is well protected in Bengal. There is no need for Central protection," a Senior Minister said, adding, "such decisions should not be taken unanimously by the Centre without consulting the State." State BJP chief Dilip Ghosh promptly hit back questioning, "Why Mamta Banerjee herself kept RPF with her for five years after coming to power." The State Government and the Governor do not enjoy a healthy chemistry with the latter regularly slamming the TMC Government on various issues.
Reacting to Governor’s adverse comments against the Bengal ruling outfit senior minister Partha Chatterjee said he was tired of giving reactions on Dhankhar’s statements. "Everyday if he raises new issues it is difficult for me to react. I have seen several Governors like Viren J. Shah, Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Narayanan bit none like this Governor. All norms of parliamentany democracy has been lost during the short time he has come to Bengal."
Meanwhile attacking the BJP for splurging huge amount of money to win votes the Chief Minister told in a meeting at Kurseong sons of the soil (read Darjeeling) were "not the local elections from the hills but outsiders are coming to do so on BJP ticket."
