Makhan Biwi, the victim was fighting for her life in hospital, son Rafzal said. “My mother was pulled back home by her hair after she emerged from inside the booth. I tried to protect her but my father, grandfather and uncles locked me inside a room. From there I saw them forcing apart her mouth and pouring acid in it.”

The boy and his sister were also beaten up for trying to intervene, he said adding her mother had allegedly voted for the Congress which was not liked by his family which backed the TMC. Murhsidabad had already seen one poll-related death and three near-fatal injuries on Tuesday with alleged TMC goons stabbing to death a Congress worker. In other incidents three TMC workers were grievously injured in attack mounted by the CPI(M) and Congress.
