‘Exclude Keuta, Kaibartya and Dheebar from SC list’

Monday, 10 June 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

People belonging to Keuta, Kaibartya and Dheebar sub-castes are not at all Dalits, but they are enjoying 80 per cent of reservation benefits meant for SC category at the cost of real Dalits.

The Government should delete these sub-castes from the SC list or else 70 lakh real Dalits would take to the streets soon.

The Asprusya Dalita Sanrakshyana Surakshya Samiti, Odish has threatened this while narrating how people belonging to these sub-castes got included in the SC list and are torturing real Dalits.

“Keuta, Kaibartya and Dhibar sub-casters are not untouchables in the society. With help of both the Union Government and the State Government, these

sub-castes were included in the SC list in the year 2000. These people have become Ministers many times.

Though the State Government had once apprised the High Court through an affidavit that the inclusion of the three sub-castes in the SC category was a wrong step and they would be excluded soon, nothing such decision has been taken yet. Even upper caste people with help of these are torturing Dalits.

If the Government doesn’t listen to our demands soon, 70 lakh SC people will take to the streets soon,” threatened Samiti general secretary Prabhakar Mallick, joint general secretary Bandhu Sethi and executive president Alekh Chandra Mallick.

The Samiti demanded that no MLA of the sub-castes be made a Minister or a member of a the SC Advisory Committee of the Government. The Samiti also demanded not to send any leader belonging to the sub-castes  to Rajya Sabha. The Government shouldn’t consider for inclusion of seven other sub-castes suggested by the Keuta, Kaibartya and Dhibars.

Besides, the Samiti demanded that action be taken soon against eight persons who enjoyed SC category benefit illegally before the 2002. The letters sent to these people from the Election Commission and the SC Commission should be investigated.

The Samiti also demanded inclusion of “Mehentar” people in the SC category.
