‘Irrigation potential developed for State’s 68% agricultural land’

Irrigation potentiality has been created for 68 per cent of cultivable lands in the State so far, claimed Water Resources Minister Raghuandan Das in the State Assembly on Thursday.

In response to a question of BJP MLA Mohan Charan Majhi, the Minister said the assured irrigation facility created for cultivable land (net sown area) at national level is 47 per cent now.

“Out of total 61,80,000 hectares of cultivation land in Odisha, irrigation potentiality has been provided to 42,18,000 hectares, which amounts to 68 per cent of the total cultivable land,” said the Minister.

While irrigation potentiality have been created for 29,62,000 hectares of land by March-end, 2010, the Government created irrigation potentiality for 12,56,000 hectares of land between April 2010 and June 2019, said the Minister.
