Puri-based social activist Jayant Das would file a case against Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu for his alleged controversial role in a rape case that was registered at the Khandagiri police station, Bhubaneswar, on August 23, 2018.
As per complaints of Das, Sahu in his report to the NHRC has tried his best to weaken the case related to a rape of a woman of Puri by a city-based reporter of a vernacular daily. The accused was charged of raping the woman in a hotel of Bhubaneswar, taking her obscene pictures and blackmailing her.
The complaints of Das read further that after waiting for months since she lodged an FIR with the Khandagiri police, the latter didn't act.
The victim lastly moved the NHRC for justice against inordinate delay of the police to arrest the accused.
The NHRC asked the police to appear and later ordered immediate steps against the rape accused. DCP Sahu appearing before the NHRC produced a report, which was completely contradicting with confessions of the victim woman before a Magistrate. He charged that Sahu was behind the eleven months’ delay to arrest the accused only to damage the evidences.
