Jakhar, Warring backs Sidhu on Kartarpur corridor

Difference in opinion appears to have surfaced within the Congress party over Navjot Singh Sidhu’s contribution in the opening of the Kartarpur corridor.

So far, Sidhu’s role in the opening of the corridor was being kept beyond the realm of acknowledgment with Punjab Congress’ top leadership preferring to remain silent on the issue. But with just about eight days to go before the opening of the corridor, Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar and the political advisor to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, both considered close to Capt Amarinder Singh, on Thursday came out in the open to give the former Cabinet Minister his due.

The development appears to has evoked much interest in the political circles as Capt Amarinder and Sidhu are known bête noires. Sidhu’s outster from the main power stream has also been attributed to Capt Amarinder’s apparent dislike for him.

The open acknowledgement by Jakhar and Warring came just about a day after Sidhu’s contribution was acknowledged not by his own men but “not-so-friendly” neighbour Pakistan.

Notably, Sidhu’s “friend” Pak Prime Minister Imran Khan has invited him for attending the inaugural ceremony of Kartarpur Sahib corridor on their side of the border, which the cricketer-turned-politician has reportedly accepted.

Jakhar, while talking with the media on the sidelines of an event to pay tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, said: “Sidhu has a big role in the opening the Kartarpur corridor which cannot be forgotten.”

Sharing the same views, Warring said that Sidhu has been instrumental in the opening of the corridor, and if the Pakistan has invited him for the inauguration ceremony, he must go.
