MCL reemerges to script a new history

Wednesday, 13 March 2019 | PNS | SAMBALPUR

The Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) on Tuesday recorded the highest single-day production of the current financial year by mining 7.27 lakh tonnes of coal.

The MCL’s consolidated production figure of 7,27,429 tonnes recorded for March 11, 2019 spread as a motivating spirit among the miners across all its units in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul and Sambalpur. Continuing with the highest-ever monthly average of production at 5.78 lakh tonnes in March 2019, highest among the coal-producing companies in the country, the MCL is poised to script a new history at the end of financial year 2018-19.

This is despite this leading subsidiary of Coal India witnessing unexpected stoppages in mining operations during the current year, hampering its production plans.  However, by meticulous production planning for challenging situations and successful execution by the teams at the project level, the company has reemerged from the negative growth, registering an absolute growth of over one million tonne.
