Modi’s tenure as Gujarat CM a black spot: Maya

Thursday, 16 May 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Continuing her tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday said his legacy as the chief minister of Gujarat was is a “black spot” and “burden” not only on the BJP but also the country.

Saying that Modi was “unfit” as chief minister and prime minister and his tenure has seen “anarchy and hatred”, Mayawati said, “My tenure as chief minister of UP for four times has been clean and works done on law and order, development, people’s welfare front are remembered even today. PM Modi has been CM of Gujarat for a longer time but his legacy is such it is a black spot not only on himself but also on the BJP and a burden on communal history of the country,” she said here.

“When the BSP was in power, Uttar Pradesh was free of riots and anarchy,” the BSP supremo said on Wednesday.

“The prime minister does not hesitate from calling BSP, ‘Behenji ki Sampatti Party’. Whatever the national president of BSP has, it has been given by well-wishers and the Bahujan Samaj and nothing is hidden from the government,” Mayawati added.

She said the prime minister had crossed all limits of decency in calling the BSP as her “personal property”.

A day earlier, the BSP chief had said, “Modi government’s ship is sinking”, keeping up her attack on the prime minister.

Mayawati on Wednesday addressed a joint rally of the SP-BSP-RLD alliance along with Akhilesh Yadav and Ajit Singh at Mau in east UP.

Interestingly, BSP candidate from Ghosi Lok Sabha seat Atul Rai is absconding as he is wanted by the police in connection with the FIR on rape charges against him. An FIR registered in a Varanasi police station accuses him of sexual assault.

Atul Rai has been missing from the campaign scene for the past fortnight. Rai is reportedly absconding ever since the FIR was registered against him on May 1 by a college student, who alleged that he had sexually assaulted her. Fearing arrest, Rai went underground and has not been canvassing.

“We are campaigning for him (Rai) and the people of Ghosi know that he is being framed,” the BSP chief said.

Mayawati asked her party cadre to continue the campaign for Atul Rai and ensure his victory. She said that Rai was a victim of conspiracy by the BJP as the saffron party wanted to defame him. “It is our responsibility to get Atul Rai elected and defeat the conspiracy against him,” she said.

The BSP sources said that they apprehend that Rai may be arrested if he comes here for campaigning.

Samajwadi President Akhilesh Yadav issued similar instructions to his party workers.

The Ghosi will go to polls on May 19 in the final phase of Lok Sabha elections.
