District police have on Saturday recovered over Rs 1 crore during raids conducted at different places where betting was operated.
Police said that raids were conducted at seven places and massive amount which accounted to around Rs 90 lakh was recovered from two places which was Rs 56 lakh and Rs 29 lakh.
During the raids, Rs 29 lakh was seized from Bharat Soni who owns Bharat tent house at Habibganj while Rs 56 lakh was seized from Naresh Hematani who runs a bakery in Kolar area and recovered money from his house at Mahabali Nagar in Kolar.
The two were involved in betting and the money was likely to be used in elections would be investigated. At the time of raid money was seized from Hemtani’s almirah in his house which was raided, his house was raided when police team arrived on being informed about a betting den operated in his house. After the cash was seized he was asked to produce the details of the money which was recovered from his house but he failed to documents. Police started investigation and informed income tax officials.
The other big catch Soni was detained from his in Habibganj area where he had kept the money and was likely involved in betting. SOni failed to produce details of money and same process of informing the income tax officials was done by the police.
Third in the row was Sanjeet Chawla was arrested for possessing Rs 11 lakh at his shop at bus stand. Police have also seized Rs 6 lakh around were seized from other spots at Idgah hills and Ashoka garden areas from the houses of Jaiprakash Meghani and Chetan Wadhwani. They live in Shahjahanabad and Ashoka Garden areas respectively.
