The Orissa High Court has given an order to Sundargarh police to register a murder case involving death of a girl and start an investigation after about two years of the incident.
Sources said the girl was found dead at her home in 2017 whereas her father claimed that she hanged herself with a scarf. But the mother of the deceased girl had alleged that her husband had killed the deceased after pressing her throat.
The police had registered a UD case at that time and thereafter, the mother of the girl had knocked the door of the HC for justice.
According to sources, Durgamadhav Ekka, a resident of Karamdih village under Sadar police station in Sundargarh had a sour relation with wife Amita Barla.
The couple had two daughters, such as Priyanaka and Monalisa.
After eight years of marriage, the relationship between Durgamadhav and Amita had turned sour. Durgamadav used to drink alcohol regularly and was coming home in inebriated condition and was disturbing his family.
Amita left Durgamadav’s house during the year 2006 and went to her parents home leaving two daughters with Durgamadhav. Although Amita was staying in her father’s house, she was in touch with her daughters. When Durgamadhav came to know it, he began to behave harsh with his daughters.
Priyanka was 17 years old and Monalisa was 14 years. Priyanka passed her matric examination and had reportedly told her father to stay in Sundargarh College’s girls hostel but Durgamadhav had opposed it.
Priyanka thereafter finding no other alternative was commuting from her home at Karamdih to
Sundargarh daily.
On July 9, 2017 when Priyanka returned to her home after attending college, Durgamadhav allegedly had rebuked her in filthy language and allegedly pressed her throat and killed her.
When Priyanka’s mother Amita got information, she alongwith her parents and other family members rushed to Durgamadhav’s house but Durgamadhav carrying an axe had sat in front of his house and had not allowed Amita and her family members to enter in his house.
Durgamadhav had threatened Amita and her family members to go from that place and had also threatened to kill them if they informed police.
Amita had however lodged an FIR. Amita had made a writ petition in the Orissa High Court that Durgamadhav killed Priyanka by pressing her throat.
After about two years of death of Priyanka, the court ordered Sundargarh Superintendent of Police and IIC, Sadar police station to register a murder case.
“As per the order of the HC, we have registered a murder case under IPC sections 302 and 506 against Durgamadhav and have started a probe, ” said Sadar police station IIC RK Sai.
