Saudi national held for smuggling 1.6 kg gold worth Rs 53 lakh

A Saudi national was arrested by custom officials at Terminal-3 of Delhi airport for allegedly smuggling 15 gold biscuits and one cut piece weighing a total of 1.6 kg and worth approximately Rs 53 lakh.

According to an official statement, custom officials were keeping surveillance on the Saudi man arriving from Dammam in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

He was intercepted and a detailed personal and baggage search was conducted. Custom Officials recovered 15 gold biscuits weighing 100 grams each and one cut piece of gold weighing 108 grams from the Saudi national.

“The gold biscuits were concealed in a plastic wrapper which was tied to his waist and the cut piece was found on his shoulder bag,” it said.

The accused was arrested under section 110 of Customs Act, 1962, they said, adding that they are further investigating the matter.
