Maha deaths drop to 180, infection down to 8,142

In a drop in the number of deaths and infections, as many as 180 people succumbed to Covid-19 and 8,142 others tested positive for the pandemic in various parts of the state on Wednesday. 

A day after Maharashtra logged 213 deaths and 8,151 infections, the number of deaths came down by 33 to take the daily fatality to 180, while the infected cases dropped by 9 to take the daily infection tally to 8142.

With 180 fresh deaths, the Covid-19 toll rose from 42,453 to 42,633. Similarly with 8,142 new infections, the total infected cases jumped from 16,09,516 to 16,17,658.

On a day when 23,371 people were discharged from various hospitals in the state, the number of people discharged from various hospitals after full recovery since the second week of March this year went up to 14,15,679. The recovery rate in the state rose from  86.50 per cent to 87.51 per cent.

Of the 180 deaths reported on Wednesday,  Mumbai accounted for a maximum 48 deaths, followed by 20 deaths in Pune, 15 each in Thane and Nagpur, 12 in Kolhapur and 11 in Latur.

In the lower range, there were 9 deaths each in Jalgaon and Sangli, 4 each in Nashik, Solapur, Osmanabad, Nanded and Akola, 3 each in Raigad and Satara, 2 each in Palghar, Jalna, Parbhani, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Wardha and one death each in Dhule, Hingoli and Beed.

With 48 deaths, the Covid-19 toll rose from 9,864 to 9,912 while the infected cases went up by 1,609 to trigger a jump in the infections from 244,260 to 245,869.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate in the state stood at 2.64 per cent. The number of “active cases” in the state dropped from 1.74,265 to 1,58,852.

Pune district, which continued to be the worst-affected city-district in Maharashtra, saw the total number of cases increase from 3,25,379 to 3,26,785, while the total number of deaths in Pune increased from 6561 to 6581.

Thane district remained in the third spot --after Pune and Mumbai – after the total number of infections from 2,13,700 to 2,15,679, while the pandemic toll rose from 5223 to 5238. Out of 83,27,493 samples sent to laboratories, 16,17,658 have tested positive (19.43 per cent) for COVID-19 until Wednesday.

Currently, 24,47,292 people are in home quarantine while 23,312 people are in institutional quarantine.
