‘I have been acting since I was 10’

HARSH CHHAYA tells MUSBA HASHMI what made him take up the role of Papaji in Sony Liv’s Undekhi, his fondest memory from the sets and his takeaway from the industry in his 30-year career

What is your role in Undekhi?

I play a rich, powerful and out of control kind of man, Papaji. He is a resort owner in Manali and couldn’t care any less about anything on the planet. His only solution to everything is goli mardengey.

Were there any apprehensions before taking up the role?

Absolutely not. I was perfectly fine with the project and the role. I like to do different things but most of the times, I have played similar parts and this was something different. I just had to say yes to it as soon as I heard the narration.

Your fondest memory from the sets.

Everything went on without a mishap, that was the best part actually. We were shooting in Manali for 15 days and it was  fun. I was working but at the same time I was also on a holiday. The whole unit was fun to work with. There were new actors  and some of them were first timers so the whole energy was different and exciting.

Was acting always on cards?

Yes, it was. I have been acting since I was 10. There’s nothing else I would have chosen to do but acting.

In almost 30 years of career, what has been your takeaway from the industry?

To keep to yourself and deliver your best on time and in the way people want you to. Rest keep out of everything else.

Where do you find yourself most comfortable working in — TV, films or OTT platforms?

That is dependent on the part I am playing. As long as, I have a part of my interest I am fine with working in any medium. If I have a film and TV offer at the same time, and I like the part in TV then I would take that.

What is there in the pipeline?

Right now there is nothing to talk about because the things that we were in talks with has been postponed or cancelled. At this point of time, I really don’t know.
