2 bootleggers held for supplying illicit liquor in Delhi, Ghaziabad

With the arrest of two bootleggers, the Delhi Police on Friday claimed to have busted a syndicate involved in supplying and selling illicit liquor in Delhi and its neighbouring Ghaziabad. Police said that they have also recovered 5534 quarters of liquor from the possession of the duo. The accused have been identified as Uday Kumar (32) and Sukhveer Singh (26), both residents of West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area.

According to Anto Alphonse, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district, on March 12, specific inputs were received regarding supply of huge quantity of illicit liquor on two carr following which a police team laid a trap at Sector-1, near Agrasen Hospital.

“On noticing police, the driver of the vehicles tried to dodge with vehicles but was overpowered by the police team,” said the DCP.

“During checking of the two vehicles, Honda City car and Maruti SX4, a total of 114 cartons (5534 quarter) of illicit liquor were recovered. Subsequently, a case under section 33/38/58 Delhi Excise Act was registered at Dwarka South police station and duo was placed under arrest,” the DCP added.

“During interrogation, the duo disclosed that they have brought the illicit liquor from Haryana and were going to supply in Ghaziabad. The duo further told police that during festive seasons the demands of illicit liquor to lower strata of people were increased. However, the illicit liquor could not be supplied as there are strong pickets were deployed at the borders of Delhi to prevent smuggling,” said the DCP.

“After the Holi festival, they tried to supply the illicit liquor in the areas of Ghaziabad but their luck ran out and they were nabbed by the police,” said the DCP.
