BJP leader alleges sexual harassment

Friday, 25 September 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

After Bharatiya Janata Party MLA in Aligarh created trouble for the party by threatening the local district police chief not to harass the party leaders in the beginning of this week, now a former office-bearer of BJP District Minority Cell in Aligarh alleged sexual harassment and attempt on life by a senior leader of her own party.

She too accused the local police of working under the influence of the BJP leader and claimed that instead of lodging an FIR, she made a complaint to senior party leaders, including the chief minister, requesting them to punish the guilty leader.

Farheen Mohisin, hailing from Usmanphada area of Delhigate in Aligarh, levelled sexual harassment charges against Imran Aleem Saifi, district president of the party’s minority cell in Aligarh.

She claimed that after she opposed his sexual advances and issued a warning, the leader sent his goons to her house and they attacked her and her husband last Monday. The entire incident was recorded on close circuit television.

Mohisin said that finding no other way and seeing that Imran was adamant to “outrage her modesty”, she had quit the party post. She was secretary in the district minority cell.

She denied lodging an FIR and said that she knew that some leaders were trying to bring a bad name to the party in Aligarh so she appraised the party top leadership of the issue and hoped that she would get justice.

Sources said that Imran denied all charges and claimed that efforts were made to malign his image.

Meanwhile, hitting out at the Yogi Adityanath government over its decision to put up posters of people accused of eve teasing, the Samajwadi Party on Thursday asked the government to put up posters of those supporting rape accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar and Swami Chinmayanand.

SP leader Sunil Singh Sajan said here on Thursday  that the administration had failed to curb crimes against women and its ‘anti-Romeo Squads’ constituted for women safety had failed.

“Today, the Yogi Adityanath government issued a new diktat of putting up posters of eve-teasers. It should first say how many laws has it come up with in this regard so far. The government also said that those taking sides of the culprits will be punished. So will posters of those taking sides of rape accused like Kuldeep Singh Sengar and Chinmayanand will also be out up?,” the SP MLC asked.

“We too believe that stringent action must be taken against the culprits, but let the courts do their work,” he said.
