Chhattisgarh Police on Thursday busted an IPL ‘satta’ (betting) racket operating inside two separate moving cars in the state capital and arrested seven persons.
Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Yadav told the Pioneer that Rs 12,000 in cash as well as betting records detailing transactions of around Rs 1 crore were seized from four of them.
Those arrested were identified as Chhote Dewangan (53) of Bilaspur city and Gaurav Sabarwal (37), Mahendra Dewangan (37) and Mohammad Raees (24), all from Janjgir-Champa district.
Police seized 10 mobile phones, a laptop and a car (CG-11, 8293).
In another racket, the police arrested three persons, identified as Ritesh Govindani (26), Jitendra Premchandani (23) and Jagjeet Singh (22), all residents of Gudhiyari locality in Raipur.
Police seized nine mobile phones, a laptop, a car (CG-04, 5554) and betting records of Rs 10 crore.
The police conducted the raid on Wednesday night after getting a tip about the betting racket inside moving cars in the capital city on the match played between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, the officer added.
The arrested men said they were operating the betting racket inside cars as they did not get a room in any hotel or any other safe place due to the lockdown, Yadav said.
