The Commissionerate police busted a high profile gambling racket operating from a hotel in the IRC Village area under the Nayapalli police station here on Friday night and arrested nine persons in this connection.
The cops also seized cash worth Rs 1.5 lakh and three costly cars from the arrestees’ possession. Shockingly, the seized cars had Covid-19 passes that were issued by the Tangi BDO, sources added.
Most of the arrested persons are builders, contractors and jewellery traders.
The racket which was operating from the hotel running under the Oyo banner for some time was under the radar of police. But after getting reliable inputs, the Nayapalli police conducted the raid and arrested the accused red-handed.
On Saturday the accused were forwarded to court. Police said they have issued a notice to the hotel owner and are investigating into the involvement of others in the racket.
