IIT Bhilai to be Host Institute for MSME scheme

Tuesday, 27 October 2020 | Staff Reporter | BHILAI

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai’s proposal for recognition as Host Institute for implementing the scheme ‘Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of MSMEs through Incubator’ was considered and approved at a meeting of Project Management Training and Consulting (PMAC) in New Delhi.

Two innovative ideas submitted by the students of IIT Bhilai have recently been approved.

Conceptualized by Abhishek Shingane and Saksham Bhushan, MakersLab Technologies has come up with “Access Control Systems for Digital India”, which deals with the field of Internet of Things (IoT).

MakersLab plans to develop cost-effective and user-friendly security and monitoring solutions such as access control systems and attendance management. These will enable small businesses to equip themselves with modern technologies.

The hardware and software will be entirely developed and manufactured in India, benefiting local MSMEs, and will ensure self-dependence in security systems.

The second project is conceptualized by Anand Panchbhai and focuses on “Artificial Intelligence in Medical Diagnosis”.

The rationale behind it is that India, or the world in general, faces an acute shortage of medical professionals who can perform diagnosis. This innovation aims to use advances in AI to provide medical diagnosis at a cost-effective, reliable and accessible manner.

For example, one of the projects is to digitize medical samples of Malaria (Automating Microscopy), then to apply AI to generate detailed diagnostic reports, with the aim of providing accurate reports at a fraction of the price.

When regarded in numbers, the price of current Microscopy (Manual) is Rs 100 per scan while the price of current Rapid Diagnostic Test is Rs 15 per scan. Using AI in Medical Diagnosis, this price will amount to around Rs 10-15 per scan.

While the manual process could take between 4-5 days per scan and the rapid diagnostic test is typically 5 minutes (with low accuracy rates), the AI will provide a diagnosis within 10-15 minutes per scan at a very high accuracy.
