The Keonjhar district administration on Sunday imposed shutdown in the Barbil municipality area for a week to contain further spread of Covid-19 in the town.
All market places would be shut and unnecessary movement of vehicles would be restricted. However, healthcare services and essential goods supply would continue, said district Collector Ashish Thakare.
The weeklong shutdown was announced after 11 new Covid-19 positive cases were detected at Barbil.
Thakare said, “Keonjhar district reported 25 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours, of which 11 are local contacts belonging to Barbil. The remaining 14 cases have travel history to other States. Of 14 cases, 13 have been detected from TMCs and one is a home quarantine case. They are from Harichandanpur, Ghatagaon, Patana, Keonjhar block and Hatadihi.â€
The fresh cases reported from Barbil town are the primary contacts of earlier positive cases. Further contact tracing is underway to break the chain of coronavirus.
“We have accelerated the contact tracing and active surveillance activity to contain further spread of coronavirus in the municipality area,†the Collector said.
Following detection of new Covid cases, the district’s tally rose to 182 with 81 active cases. Total recovered cases in the district are 101 so far.
