Third edition of JIFFA online on Oct 11

The third edition of the Jharkhand International Film Festival Awards 2020 (JIFFA) will be launched on the Zoom App on October 11 at 9:30 pm. While addressing the media on Friday, Vice President cum Media Incharge Sunil Singh Badal informed that 657 films from 53 countries including India have sent their entries this year.

The event will be inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar. Padma Shri recipient Mukund Nayak, Padma Shri recipient Madhu Mansuri Hasmukh, Director Gautam Ghosh, Rahul Rawail, Nitesh Tiwari of Chhichhore fame, Anup Jalotaand Ravi Tripathi will be the other dignitaries.

“In 2018, three countries had sent their entries while in 2019 seven countries had participated. During corona crisis, receiving an entry of 657 films is a major achievement in the interest of the State,” said Badal.

Badal further stated that there are a total of 520 short films, 51 feature films, 47 documentaries and 39 animation films. “Out of these 357 films are from India, 32 from America and 34 from Iran. Films from Nigeria, Spain, Turkey, France and various other countries will also be a part of it. This shows that Jharkhand and India have caught the world’s attention.”

Film and Television Institute, Pune has sent seven entries, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods International Institute have sent 17 and 24 films respectively. From the various states, Jharkhand has 11 entries while from Mumbai and Pune there are 114 Hindi films and 14 Marathi films. Entries have also received from Kerala, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha among others.

Pankaj Tripathi, Mukesh Khanna, Hemant Pandey and more than 100 film makers will be present online during the event. Films based on the folk dances of Jharkhand and tourism will also be showcased.

The programme will be hosted online by Aman Verma from Mumbai, Ruchika Dawar from Goa, Shreya Singh Rajpur from Ranchi studio along with Sahityoday Chief Pankaj Priyam.
