‘Bhaipo’ got Rs 900 cr from coal racket: Suvendu

Monday, 05 April 2021 | Saugar Sengupta | Kolkata

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has mounted a fresh attack on Trinamool Congress leader, particularly its MP Abhishek Banerjee the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee holding his party and Government responsible for running coal and cow rackets.

Without naming the junior Banerjee but indicating who he meant Adhikari on Sunday said “an individual who sent Rs 900 crore to the account of the Bhaipo in the last 10-12 years of the TMC rule has been arrested … all this money comes from the coal racket.

Adhikari was referring to an audio tape involving one Bagadia, Benoy Mishra (a fugitive Youth Trinamool Congress leader) and a police circle inspector showing how huge amount of cash got parked in the account of the top TMC politician.

Saying that he too was in the Trinamool Congress “until we were being controlled by a Chief Minister … but when the Chief Minister became a Pishi (aunt) caring only for the welfare of the Bhaipo (nephew) I quit the party.”

Subsequently BJP leader Amit Malaviya wrote “It would be naive to believe that Abhishek Banerjee was presiding over the syndicates and Mamata Banerjee did not know about it. Thus, it's a question of morality and agencies investigating matters to its logical end, which will be done.”

In a harsh reply however the Chief Minister hit back saying everything was being created as a part of political vendetta. Calling the Prime Minister the kingpin of the BJP’s syndicate she said Modi is syndicate number 1 and Amit Shah is syndicate number 2,” alleging, “they are sending agencies to Abhishek's house, Sudip's (Bandopadhyay) house and to the house of Stalin's (DMK leader) daughter... They are continuously changing police officers.”

Attacking alleged “weak-kneed police officers” she said there are some of them “who are very timid and so they are acting according to the wishes of the BJP.”

Last week she even wrote a letter to the opposition parties saying: “The BJP wants to make it impossible for non-BJP parties to exercise their constitutional rights and freedoms. It wants to dilute the power of state governments and downgrade them to mere municipalities. It wants to establish a one-party authoritarian rule in India.”

Meanwhile, in a related development Samajwadi Party leader Jaya Bacchan would come to Kolkata to campaign for the Trinamool Congress. She would campaign for four days, hold two-three road shows and rallies between April 5 and 8, party sources said adding the SP leader was coming after the Chief Minister had talks with former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
