Wednesday, 19 May 2021 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Delhi Government will be unable to vaccinate 18-44 years old from next week as Covishield’s stock left for three days only, while Covaxin hasbeen used up. Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)  leader Atishi on Tuesday said vaccination for the youth will be halted due to shortage of vaccines, and centres will be temporarily shut down. Delhi has administered nearly 46,94,970 doses up until now, the AAP leader said. Reading from the vaccination bulletin, she thanked the Central Government for supplying the fresh stock of 60,240 doses of Covaxin for 45+ and healthcare/frontline workers. 1,13,142 vaccines  were administered on May 17,  out of this, 67,487 doses  were given to18-44, and 45, 655 people over 45 and healthcare/frontline workers gottheir shots in Delhi.

More than 36 lakh  were jabbed with the first dose in Delhi, nearly 10,77,526  people have been fully vaccinatedwith both the shots. On Monday, 1,13,142 vaccines were administered, out of these 67,487doses were given to the 18-44 age group, and 45,655 people above the age of 45 and healthcare/ frontline workers got their shots.

“The immunisation of second doses to people has reduced because of theincreased gap of 12-16 weeks between the first and second dose of

Covishield. So, the second doses of Covaxin are being administered, while the first doses have lessened quite a bit.

Hence, the totaldoses administered has increased to: 46,94,970 doses. Out of these, nearly 10,77,526 people have received both their shots and are fullyvaccinated. And, more than 36 lakhs have received their first doses,”Atishi said citing the vaccination bulletin.Emphasising on the vaccinations for 18-44yers, she said, “Fortunately, the positivity rate is on a decline in Delhi in the second wavenow.””But we did observe that in this wave, a lot of young patientswho contracted the virus were critical, and the mortality rate ofyouth was high as well,” she added.
