Covid-19 cases continue to mount in U’khand

Amid fears of the second wave of the Covid-19, the state health department reported 257 new cases of the disease in Uttarakhand on Saturday.

The cumulative count of patients of the disease has now mounted to 99,515 in the State. The department also reported the death of one patient of the disease on the day. The disease has so far claimed 1,709 lives in the State. The authorities discharged 67 patients from different hospitals of the State following their recovery on Saturday. A total of 94,983 patients have recovered from the disease in the state so far and the recovery percentage is now at 95.45 and the sample positivity rate is 3.69 percent.

The authorities reported 126 new cases of the disease from Dehradun, 73 from Haridwar, 15 from Tehri, 12 from Nainital, ten from Tehri, five from Pauri, four from Uttarkashi, three from Champawat, Pithoragarh and Rudraprayag, two from Almora and one from Chamoli district on Saturday. No new patient of the disease was reported from Bageshwar district on the day.

The health department reported the death of a 67 year old male patient at Jaya Maxwell hospital Bahadrabad, Haridwar Dehradun on the day.

The State now has 1,339 active patients of the disease. Dehradun now is at the top of the table of active cases  the disease with 464 patients, Haridwar has 438, Nainital 103, Tehri 71, Udham Singh Nagar 59, Almora 36, Uttarkashi 23, Champawat 20,  Chamoli 19, Pithoragarh 16 and Bageshwar nine active patients of the disease.

Meanwhile in the ongoing vaccination drive, 18,421 people were vaccinated in different parts of the State on Saturday. In the State 121297 people have been fully vaccinated so far as they have received both the first and second dose of the vaccine.

A total of 310632 senior citizens (60 Plus) have received the first dose of the vaccine in the State.

Similarly, 22,867 persons in the age group of 45-59 years having co-morbidity have been vaccinated. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that 344 vaccine sessions were organised in different parts of the State on Saturday.
