Man held for stealing cash from bank

Chhattisgarh Police on Thursday arrested a 38-year-old man for stealing `2.5 lakh from a cash counter at the Jai Stambh Chowk branch of a nationalized bank here.

Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Yadav told The Pioneer that N. Krishna Raju Reddy was a resident of Bhilai in Durg district.

On February 19, an Assistant General Manager of the bank lodged a case of theft against an unidentified person.

Based on CCTV footage, police found that the accused took away a bundle of 500 currency notes of `500 totaling `2.50 lakh from cash counter number 1.

Police recovered `1.50 in cash, a mobile phone and a bike (CG-07 BU 7375) used in the crime.

The accused is a habitual offender and he was jailed for stealing ornaments from a shop in Durg in 2011.

Police are investigating if he was involved in a similar cash theft at a bank in Rajnandgaon district in 2018.
