The Paradip Port Trust (PPT) achieved an all-time traffic throughput of 114.55 million metric tonnes (MMT) during the year 2020-21 as against the previous year’s traffic of 112.68 million metric tonnes exhibiting a growth of 1.65 %.
PPT Chairman Vinit Kumar, addressing a Press meet held here on Thursday, said the cargo handling record of 100-MMT mark was achieved by the port for the fourth consecutive year. During the year, the port performance parameter viz. Berth-day out-put improved to 23,943 MT, Pre-berthing detention has improved from 15.32 hours in FY 19-20 to 6.20 hours in FY 2020-21 and the Berth Occupancy is 74% as against 73% in the previous year.
The Port’s profit before tax stands at Rs.722 crore which is an increase of 6.02% over last fiscal which stood at Rs 681 crore. The port also took up modernisation projects worth over Rs 2,000 crore.
On the front of environment, the port has dry fog system in MCHP and two Mobile Cannons Dust Suppression, two Mechanised Road Sweeping Machines, two Wheel Washing Systems, two Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) of 2.5 MLD and 2 MLD capacity, 12 meter height and 2.9 km long Net Barriers along the port periphery.
The port organised a six months free residential training programme for 120 unemployed youths through the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering Technology (CIPET) Bhubaneswar at a cost of Rs 72 lakh and all of them have been gainfully employed after the training.
Besides, free cataract operations have been conducted on 102 poor persons at PPT hospital in a year. It took a number of welfare measures as well and did a commendable job on Covid front.
