A special issue on celebrated writer Gita Mehta was released at the premises of Panchayat College, Boudh on Friday. This masterpiece of critical writing on Mehta was published in the September special issue of the only international English literary quarterly published from Odisha by editor-in-chief of the journal Udaynath Majhi.
Releasing the special issue, chief guest former Minister and present Boudh MLA Pradip Kumar Amat discussed on the literary achievements of Mehta. Guest of honour Boudh district Collector Lalatendu Mishra opined that Mehta’s writing ‘River Sutra’ is her monumental contribution to the world literature.
Chief speaker Prof Kalikinkar Pattnaik exhaustively discussed on all the literary creations of Mehta. He informed that Mehta’s literary creations like ‘The River Sutra’, ‘Eternal Ganesha’, ‘Snakes and Ladders’, ‘Raj’, ‘Mountain Sutra’ and ‘Karma Cola’ have all been included in curriculums for students in various Indian and foreign universities.
Editor Majhi informed that last year, two national webinars were held on Mehta’s literary works, some of which are also published in this issue of the journal. He added that prior to this endeavor, special issues were also published on the celebrated Indo-Anglican poet Jayanta Mahapatra and noted short story writer Manoj Das. The present special issue is of much value to the scholars and readers who are doing research in the field of language and literature.
Eminent poet Sobhagyabanta Maharana was felicitated on behalf of ‘Rock Pebbles’ for his contributions to Odia literature. The meeting was presided over by chief patron of the journal UN Majhi. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by college Principal Dr Prakash Chandra Behera.
