State to achieve self-reliance in power: CM

Friday, 26 February 2021 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that work is being done at a rapid pace in Madhya Pradesh to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream of self-reliant India. Renewable and non-conventional energy sectors are being developed to achieve self-reliance in the energy sector.

In the last 9 years, there has been a ten-fold growth in the renewable energy sector in the state. Madhya Pradesh is now playing a leadership role in this field. In the year 2012, the renewable energy capacity of the state was 491 MW, which has now increased to 5,042 MW.

Chouhan has said that Madhya Pradesh is not only achieving self-reliance in energy sector due to the works being done in the field of renewable energy in the state, but the work is also helpful in the protection of the environment. In this regard, the works being done in the state will prevent the emission of 1.41 crore tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. This is equivalent to planting about 43 crore trees.

The ultra mega solar project at Rewa has started generating power at its full capacity. It is one of the world's largest solar projects. It is generating 750 MW of electricity daily. Significantly, the power generated by it is also being given to the Delhi Metro apart from the to the power distribution companies of the state.

A unique solar floating project is being set up on the Narmada River at Omkareshwar. For this, the survey has been started by the World Bank. It will cost 3,000 crore rupees and the power generation capacity will be 600 MW. The scheme has also been awarded the World Bank President Award.

In Madhya Pradesh, solar pumps are being provided to farmers at subsidized rates for irrigation, which has resulted in reducing the cost of irrigation significantly. Under the Atmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh roadmap 2023, 45,000 solar pumps will be installed in the fields of farmers. So far, 22,673 solar pumps have been installed. Such farmers are also benefitting from solar pump scheme, whose fields are not getting electricity supply. Farmers are not only getting solar power for their own use but can also sell electricity to the power companies.

Solar parks are being developed in the Neemuch, Shajapur, Agar, Morena, Chhatarpur and Sagar districts of the state under the Atmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh roadmap. About 18,000 crore rupees will be spent on them and their power generation capacity will be 4,500 MW.
