With regular classes beginning in schools and colleges, students attending colleges still have different views when it comes to online classes and physical classes. While some are happy resuming regular classes in the colleges, some still prefer the online mode.
BAJMC student Avi Naman opined that offline classes are better. “We can interact with our teachers and meeting face to face ensures better communication. Most importantly, offline classes help me to connect with my friends daily and that is better than sitting alone in a room,†said Aman. Another college student Preeti Joshi said that she prefers online classes as that mode allows her to study and also go to work to earn for supporting her family financially at the same time. “While attending regular physical classes, it is difficult for me to help my family financially,†she said.
Bachelor of optometrey student Livika Shohe said, “I prefer offline mode because practicals are vital in the course I am pursuing. Unlike in the online mode, we get to examine the patients and understand the subject better in regular offline classes,†she said. Technical student Iratile Pame prefers offline classes. “We were unable to attend practicals and laboratory works for chemistry in online classes. The unstable network connection in my village where I was during the pandemic, made attending the online classes a challenge,†said Pame. However, BTech student Tovika Zhimo opined in favour of online classes. “In the current situation, maintaining social distancing is still a wise choice. The online mode enables one to maintain this,†said Zhimo.
Assistant professor at a private university, Smriti Uniyal said, “For any teacher, whether tech savvy or not, offline classes are better. However, one good thing about online medium is that PDFs and PPT presentations are easily done and shown but the interactivity is livelier offline.â€
Assistant professor Ved Prakash said that network issues affect online teaching and only one person can speak at a team in online classes. “Regular classes involve human connection, eye to eye contact and clearer communication between the teachers and students,†he said.
