Sunday, 26 June 2022 | Ubachak Mohanty | BALESWAR

The elected representatives, while expressing severe displeasure over performance of various departments, pulled up officials for tabling incorrect information during a meeting of the Zilla Parishad here.

They pointed out various deficiencies  including services and vacant posts  mainly in the Education and Health departments.

In the district, 632 teacher posts are lying vacant including 400 posts of 211  5T- transformed schools. It was pointed out that in several schools teacher posts remained vacant; while in some schools there are more teachers than the sanctioned  strength, in some cases the situation was reversed( less teachers than the sanctioned strength).

The newly opened Model Schools in nine blocks are also facing a crisis on several fronts. Their seats couldn't be filled due to want of adequate publicity  and in some cases the students are attending classes without adequate furniture, they alleged.

It was alleged that a lot of irregularities have been committed during the 5T transformation works of schools.  The members, while made a volley of  questions, were pacified after the district Collector  assured them of a review and inquiry into the allegations.

As many as 166 doctor posts are lying vacant with the result that many CHCs and PHCs don’t have doctors. In several cases,  the doctors are on leave and doctors are performing private practice during working hours  hampering the services at the Government hospitals, they said.

Besides, surgery works in many hospitals and healthcare centres face a difficulty due to absence of anesthesia specialists, they alleged.

Discussions  were also made on the progress of various schemes and works under PWD ,RD and Agriculture departments.

A demand was also made for the establishment of an Agriculture college  and research centre in Baleswar.

The meeting while was presided by the President ZP Narayan Pradhan, Tourism, Culture and Excise Minister Aswani Patra, Bhograi MLA Ananta Das, Baleswar MP Pratap Sarangi, Bhadrak MP Manjulata Mandal, MLAs JP Panigrahi, Swarup Das , Nityananda Sahu, Sudhanshu Praida, Sukanta Nayak, district Collector DB Shinde,CDMO Dulalsen Jagdeb, PD DRDA Rabindra Sahu, Nilgiri Sub Collector Diptiranjan Sethi  and officers of various departments  were present.
