Saturday, 02 July 2022 | KRUSHNA CHANDRA PANDA | BRAHMAPUR

The Brahmapur police, taking cognisance of several complaints regarding the nuisance created by loud DJ music and fireworks during marriage processions in the city, have directed all the DJ owners to keep the limit of sound minimum and at prescribed levels.

The police held a meeting recently with the DJ and band party masters of the city and gave instructions to install sound limiters in their respective DJ systems latest by July 10.

Police sources said that the DJ owners were asked to strictly abide by the rules of Odisha Fireworks and Loudspeakers Act. The IICs were also advised to use the sound level meter to check the sound of band parties during processions and to keep a strict vigil on them in public interest.

Brahmapur SP Dr Saravana Vivek M said, â€œThe sound limit would be  65 decibels (dB). We will do periodic checking. It is now mandatory for everyone. We will follow-up and ensure this sound limiter is brought and installed in all DJs soon", he said.

Many bands and DJs play music at 100 decibels causing unbearable noise.  According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, if a person is not wearing earplugs, 100 decibels can cause hearing loss in just 14 minutes, the police said.
