A day after the raids by the sleuths of Enforcement Directorate (ED) at several locations, Bahujan Samaj Party MP Afzal Ansari's assets worth over Rs 12 crore in the Macha village of Mohammadabad in Ghazipur were attached by the probe agency.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday carried out raids at the premises of Afzal Ansari and his brother and gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari in a money laundering case. The searches were conducted at 11 locations in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Ghazipur, Mau and also in Delhi.
Mukhtar Ansari's native residence Mohammadabad, which is long considered his fiefdom, was also being searched by the ED. The ED sleuths carried out searches at Afzal Ansari's Delhi residence too. The ED also raided close associates of Ansari -- Vikram Agrahari, Ganesh Mishra and the owner of Khan Bus Service.
Last month, the Ghazipur police had attached the BSP lawmaker's properties worth Rs 14 crore under the Gangsters Act and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act.
"Immovable properties made through illegal means and belonging to Afzal Ansari worth Rs 14.9 crore have been attached under the Gangsters Act," the police had said in a statement.
Mukhtar Ansari faces trial in Uttar Pradesh in over 50 cases, including attempt to murder and murder. He is presently lodged in Banda jail.
