In the era of Artificial Intelligence and Smart City projects, involvement of youth is increasing at a rapid speed and so is interest in any professional Training Program related to it. A Training Program in Geographical Information Science (GIS) or Geo Informatics is proving to be extremely beneficial for them while pursuing career in such fields.
A new batch for GIS Training Program (in both Online and Offline mode) is beginning at Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) where the admission forms have been rolled out, the last date of applying being 5 March 2022. GIS is a six-month long Training Program run with 30 seats available and students from any discipline of UG, PG as well as ITI Training Programs can apply. Students will have to pay Rs 40,000 for this Training Program along with the taxes and more details can be sought from www.xiss.ac.in/GI.
Each student is provided with a separate computer along with free books and study materials. In this Training Program, ArcGIS, ERDAS, ENVI, i-GIS, Q-GIS etc. software is taught along with this, training of GPS, DGPS and ETS survey instruments.
Dr Prakash Chandra Dash, Assistant Professor and Coordinator said: “Geoinformatics as a branch of studies, owing to its wider applications in various areas is rapidly gaining popularity and its acceptance by both government and private agencies is attracting students. The placement of the last three batches in this Training Program was 70-95 percent.â€
“Even from the current batch 12 out of 14 trainees who sat for placement have already got their offer letters. Talking about the field of placement, after completing the Training Program, one gets jobs in Smart City Project, MGNREGA, Forest Department, Revenue Department, PMGSY, Road Development Dept, Agriculture Department, Mining, Urban Development, Drinking Water Department, Survey of India as well as in the Private Sector and other non-governmental organizations as well,†he added.
“In the GIS Training Program, we teach the students about both concept and practical applications of GIS and Remote Sensing which they can apply in the fields of Urban planning, weather forecasting, Land Information Management system, watershed management projects, etc. Students pursuing their UG and PG can also apply for this Training Program as we run the classes after 3 pm till 6 pm in the evening,†informed Dr Dash.
