The infant mortality rate (IMR) has come down by three points signifying an improvement in the healthcare system of Uttar Pradesh, revealed SRS (sample registration system) in its bulletin released on Tuesday.
The SRS is a large-scale demographic survey for providing reliable annual estimates of infant mortality rate, birth rate, death rate and other fertility and mortality indicators at the national and sub-national levels.
The bulletin presents the estimates of birth rate, death rate, natural growth rate and infant mortality rate.
“The SRS has gone down from 41 in 2019 to 38 in SRS 2020, thus UP registered a decline of 3 points,†said a government official.
“Taking into account 55 lakh births, the lives of 16,500 newborns under the age of one year have been saved in UP who would have otherwise died by the time they attain the age of one year,†the bulletin said.
The official said that Uttar Pradesh government paid special attention to the issues of children which resulted in a sharp decline in IMR in the last few years, while on the other hand, as a result of Dastak program, a significant reduction was witnessed in child mortality in all the areas affected by AES and JE.
The SRS said that there has been a lot of improvement in death rate, birth rate, infant mortality rate in UP. Along with this, according to the data released in National Family Health Survey-5, there has been a decline in figures of neonatal mortality in UP.In terms of improving health facilities, Uttar Pradesh ranks first in Delta rankings, while Assam and Telangana are at the second and third positions respectively. Compared to previous governments, there has been a rapid increase in health services during the tenure of the Yogi government, which is evident by the data of National Family Health Survey-5 and NITI Aayog’s health index.
UP’s developing performance in the health index has managed to achieve a score of 5.52. UP, the most populous state, is number one in terms of reforms. The infection rate among children, before 2017, was 15 percent, while now it is 5.6 percent.
According to which a decline of 9.4 was recorded in the infection rate of children under the Yogi government. The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in UP is currently 50.4 percent, while it was 63.5 per cent earlier. The IMR is 59.8 percent, while before the Yogi government it was 78.1 per cent. Before 2017 in the state, where thousands of children used to die due to infection, the condition of the children of the state has improved due to golden schemes of the state government.
