Opposing forcible eviction by the administration of their buildings near the Jagannath Temple without paying compensation, land oustee Anil Gochhikar along with his mother staged a dharna near the Puri Collector office on Wednesday.
Gochikar alleged that their building was demolished forcefully without an evihction order while a case is still pending in the Orissa High Court. He also accused the administration of lifting his brother from home without any reason.
Advocate Amit Das fighting Gochhikar’s case said that though the administration deposited the compensation amount in LARA, yet a demolition order is received from the competent authority. The administration issued the eviction notice on December 31, but it gave Gochhikar no time to challenge it as the court was closed from December 31 to January 2.
Terming the demolition as completely illegal, Das said the administration failed to fulfil its commitment of giving land on the Grand Road. Besides, Gochhikar is demanding more compensation as the loser of highest 67 acres of property within the 75-meter corridor of temple.
