The number of samples pending in various labs for DNA matching from across the state has reached 10 thousand. A new DNA testing lab is being built in Bhopal to increase the number of tests. It can test hundreds of samples every month. Later, when the number of scientific officers increases, a hundred more samples can be tested. This lab is ready to start from February. Earlier it was planned to launch in December, but preparations could not be completed.
Apart from this, one lab each is being built in Gwalior and Jabalpur. Their capacity will initially be 100 sample images. Both these labs will also be operational by the end of next year. Currently there is one lab each in Bhopal, Sagar and Indore for testing DNA samples. All three locations combined have a capacity to test 600 samples per month. This is the highest number of samples tested in any state. The number of samples is not decreasing due to increase in rape cases.
Due to lack of testing capacity as per requirement, testing of 10 thousand samples is stuck in the state. In the pending samples, old ones are checked and new ones are added, so that the figure is not less than 10 thousand.
