The Transport department said on Friday that travellers do not need to panic as Uttarakhand Roadways buses will continue to operate on their route to Delhi as per the schedule from October 1. The managing director (MD) of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) Rohit Meena said that the State has just received an advisory from the Delhi government regarding their proposal of allowing the operation of BS VI vehicles to tackle the issue of air pollution in Delhi. It is not an order stating that the entry of other types of vehicles is banned from October 1, added Meena. He said that other neighbouring states have also received the same advisory and UTC is in contact with them regarding this issue. He said that the corporation will soon float the tenders for the operation of new buses of the BS VI category and the passengers do not need to panic about their travel to Delhi from Uttarakhand with UTC buses. The general manager (operations) of UTC Deepak Jain said that about 300 Roadways buses operate from Uttarakhand to Delhi daily carrying about 25,000 passengers. He said, "Most of the UTC buses are eligible to operate in Delhi. The buses should not be older than eight years as per the rules and most of our buses fulfill that norm. The corporation has sufficient means to tackle the issue and is already taking measures to resolve them. It is being said that our buses would not be allowed entry in Delhi due to some confusion among people but that's not the case. Passengers do not need to panic," said Jain.
