Members of the Chhattisgarh All Departmental Contract Employees Federation on Wednesday staged a unique protest over non-fulfilment of promises by the state government.
One of the employees lay on the ground pretending to a sleeping Kumbhakarna while others played drums in a bid to wake him up -- to signify that the government was not responsive to their grievances.
The protesters said the Congress government had promised to regularize all the contract employees. This had not been done even after four years.
The demonstration was to wake up the government from slumber, one of them said.
The Federation had earlier gone on strike but returned to work following assurances from the government.
They said that if the government does not act by January 26, then contract employees of 54 departments across the state will go on an indefinite protest.
The protesting employees submitted a memorandum to Bijapur Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Pawan Kumar Premi. It was addressed to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
