Groom’s uncle shot dead during marriage ceremony

A marriage party returned without the bride after the maternal uncle of the groomwas shot for objecting to celebratory firing in Deoria on Tuesday night.

The local police registered a case in this regard and arrested the accused for opening illegal firing from his licensed pistol leading to death of one person.

Sources said that the victim was killed after he objected to the celebratory firing by the bride’s relatives during ‘dwarpuja’.

Reports said that the marriage of Lalji Nishad’s son Sandeep of Unwal locality of Gorakhpur was fixed with a girl, Tuntun, hailing from Bourdih locality of Deoria on Tuesday night.

Eyewitness claimed that the marriage procession reached the bride’s place on Tuesday night and the ‘dwarpuja’ was taking place when suddenly some guests from the bride’s side started firing. Fearing that someone might be injured in the celebratory firing, Bajrangi, the maternal uncle of the groom, objected and this resulted in a scuffle. In the meantime, a youth involved in firing shot at Bajrangi from point blank range and he fell in a pool of blood and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police immediately reached the spot and claimed to have taken the accused youth in custody.

Incharge of the local police station, Umesh Vajpayee, claimed that senior members from both the sides held discussions for the whole night but as the groom refused for marriage, the baraat returned without the bride on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, half a dozen persons, three members of two families, died in a road mishap in Barabanki and Kasganj respectively. In Barabanki, a couple going to drop their daughter at her in-law’s house on a motorcycle died in a road mishap on Wednesday morning. The mishap took place near Chaubisi village on the Lucknow-Sultanpur highway in Haidergarh area of Barabanki district.

Reports said that Wakil of Mukandpur village under Shivratanganj police station in Amethi district, and his wife Ashiana Bano, were coming to Kadirpur village under Asandra police station in Barabanki to drop their daughter, Shaibun Nisha, at her in-law’s house also in Kadirpur. As they reached Chaubisi, a speeding truck loaded with sand hit their bike and later crushed them. All the three were killed on the spot.

A case was registered and the bodies were sent for autopsy.

In Kasganj district, a teacher and his minor sons were killed when a car rammed into a tree.

The accident took place in the Dholna police station area on Tuesday midnight. Reports said that Zafir Ahmed (35) of Nawab Jama Mohalla of the city’s Kotwali area had gone to Delhi along with his wife Irmjahan, both teachers, and sons Usman age (8), Ilman (5), Izhaan (18 months). While returning home, Zafir Ahmed lost control over the vehicle and hit a roadside tree in Dholna area of Kasganj in which all were critically injured and later rushed to district hospital where doctors pronounced Zafir and his sons Usman, Izhaan dead. The condition of Irmjahan and Ilman was stated to be critical.
