First ‘Jan Maal Lok Adalat’ launched in Jalandhar

Jalandhar: To provide on-the-spot redressal to the people’s complaints related to the state Revenue Department, Punjab Revenue Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa on Friday launched the first ‘Jan Maal Lok Adalat’ from Jalandhar. Over 1500 people participated in the Lok Adalat and 816 mutations were decided on the spot, while 90 fresh complaints were received by the officials. The Minister directed the officials to ensure prompt resolutions to these complaints so that people could be benefited from the pro-people initiative. Jimpa said that the Sub-Division-wise counters are set up under this Lok Adalat where applicants can visit to seek disposal to their pending applications.

 60 students awarded degrees at SD College Convocation

Chandigarh: Over 60 students were awarded degrees at the Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma (GGDSD) College convocation on Friday. GGDSD College Society president Vaishali Sharma bestowed the degrees to the 2020-22 and 2021-23 batch of the PML SD Business School. Congratulating the students at a function, Sharma said that PML had signed MoU’s with leading institutions like Chandigarh Management Association, ICT Academy, CII, PHD Chamber of Commerce, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park and others to ensure its students got the best industry exposure possible.

Issuing show-cause notice to protesting teachers is undemocratic: Bajwa

Chandigarh: Terming the show-cause notices issued to two teachers for lodging protests on social media “draconian and undemocratic”, the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday said that the AAP-led Punjab Government was “aggressively strangulating the voices of dissent to hush-up its lies and failures”. In a scathing attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Bajwa said that he (Mann) often boasts about calling himself the son of a teacher, and still, he has no respect for the profession (teaching) of his father. “The people of his father’s profession are mercilessly beaten by the police under him. How obnoxious it is to not let the victims of the government's high-handedness express their sufferings on social media platforms,” he added.

Rs 3cr allocated for construction of Ambedkar Bhawan in Tarn Taran

Chandigarh: Punjab Government has allocated Rs three crore for the construction of Dr BR Ambedkar Bhawan in Tarn Taran. The amount has been released for the establishment of Baba Sahib Dr BR Ambedkar Bhawan in Tarn Taran district, and the necessary land has already been acquired for this purpose, said the state Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities Minister, Dr Baljit Kaur. The Minister emphasized that the Government's plan includes establishment of these Bhawans in each district, ensuring that the people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and other impoverished sections have access to various facilities under one roof.

Punjab IPR Minister expresses grief over tragic death of DIPR driver in road accident

Chandigarh: Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra on Friday expressed deep grief over the tragic demise of Prabhjot Singh, driver posted at the Office of District Public Relations Officer Ludhiana, in a road accident. Prabhjot Singh (41) was coming to the office when he was hit by a vehicle near Sahnewal while fixing his vehicle on the GT road at around 7 am. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. “Prabhjot was a dedicated employee of the department…I personally stand with the family in this hour of grief,” he said.

German Ambassador calls on Punjab Speaker

Chandigarh: German Ambassador to India Phillip Ackermann on Friday called on Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan.  Both the leaders, during the meeting, emphasized on strengthening mutual cooperation between both the countries. Sandhwan stressed upon issues related to the Sikhs living in Germany, and asked for strengthening the cooperation between India and Germany in various fields. Both the countries can benefit from mutual exchange in various fields, he said. Sandhwan also asked Ackermann to start direct flights from Germany to Punjab besides encouraging German companies to invest in the state of Punjab.
 
Two drivers, pilfering 35 litres of diesel, caught by Pb Minister's Flying Squad

Chandigarh: Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Friday informed that under the campaign launched to curb wrongdoings in the state public bus service, two drivers pilfering 35 litres of diesel have been caught in two separate cases. “Minister's Flying Squad conducted checking on state buses at various locations in Haryana. Driver Rajpal Singh, of bus from PUNBUS Depot Rupnagar, was caught red-handed pilfering around 20 litres of diesel during the checking at Sirsa Bus Stand at 10:30 pm on Thursday night. Another bus driver, during checking in Bus Stand Hisar (Haryana), Lakhwinder Singh, was found to have pilfered about 15 litres of diesel. The Minister instructed the department officials to take appropriate disciplinary action against the drivers and conductors reported in these cases.

Chandigarh: The newly appointed Media Secretary Praveen Attrey on Friday assumed charge in the office of Information, Public Relations, Language and Culture Department, Haryana. On this occasion, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister Amit Arya was also present. Attrey said that he will fulfill the assigned responsibility given to him with utmost diligence. Talking to the media on this occasion, Arya said that the Chief Minister has completely changed the direction of Haryana’s politics by transforming the system in the last eight and a half years.

Hry Youth Cong to hold statewide protests from July 10

Chandigarh: Haryana Youth Congress on Friday announced holding statewide protests, starting from July 10, over the demand to allow candidates who had cleared the common eligibility test (CET) of the Haryana Staff Selection Commission to appear in the main exam. Youth Congress State Chief Divyanshu Budhiraja said that workers and unemployed youth will stage protests outside district secretariats, starting from Sonipat. He further said, "Due to the government's incompetence, wrong policies, and stubbornness, the dream of unemployed youth to find jobs is being shattered because the CET exam has become a roadblock on the path to the future of unemployed youth".  Budhiraja said the Youth Congress has prepared a strategy to raise a voice against the "government's stubbornness".
