The State Higher Education Department has granted permission to open Post Graduate courses in SVM Autonomous College  Jagatsinghpur from the current academic session 2023-24, informed  college Principal Bijaya Kumar Patra in a Press meet held in college premises on Tuesday.

In the first phase, PG courses in  eight subjects of Arts and two subjects of Commerce streams will begin, while 16 seats are permitted in each subject and aspirants seeking admission for PG courses will have to appear for a common entrance test.“We have updated the information in the Student Academic Management System (SAMS), Odisha and college website for further information to the students. The college management has decided to provide hostel facilities to out-station students who want to take admission in the PG classes,” Principal Patra said.

It was a longstanding demand of the students and the college management to open PG courses because after completing graduation, our students were usually moving out of the districts to pursue PG courses. Now, they will face the difficulty no more, said Patra, expressing gratitude to the Higher Education Minister, Secretary and officials.Government Chief Whip in Assembly -cum- SVM College former Students' Union president Prashanta Muduli also expressed happiness over the matter. Among others, Plus II Principal Bijaya Biswal and college management members were present.

According to the Higher Education Department notification issued on Monday PG subjects in Political Science, English, Economics, Journalism and Mass Communication, History, Sanskrit, Odia, Philosophy, Finance Control, and Corporate Accounting will start in the SVM Autonomous College, Jagatsinghpur from session 2023-24.

Notably, The Pioneer had carried a story on April 10, citing lack of adequate opportunity for professional and job-oriented courses in Jagatsinghpur, particularly in the premier college of the district, the SVM College.
