Pregnancy Through IVF Even With Advanced Age and Low AMH Levels, A Case Study With Birla Fertility & IVF

For a 41-year-old woman and her 43-year-old husband, the journey to parenthood was filled with heartbreak. After eight years of marriage and two failed IVF attempts at renowned fertility clinics, they were running out of hope. Desperate for a fresh start, they turned to Birla Fertility & IVF’s Gurgaon centre, seeking expert care from Dr. Prachi Benara, a renowned fertility specialist.

Dr. Benara took the time to listen and understand their challenges. A comprehensive testing revealed one key issue: the woman had low AMH levels, indicating a diminished ovarian reserve. With age, the egg reserves in a female body naturally decline. This does not mean that she can’t become pregnant. It just means that the IVF approach needs to be meticulously planned and customised.

However, her low AMH did make natural conception unlikely, and the couple opted for donor eggs to move forward. Additionally, an Endometrial Receptivity Analysis (ERA) was conducted to ensure the uterus was prepared for embryo transfer, improving their chances of success.

Personalised approach to IVF has shown remarkable success in clinical outcomes. Keeping that in mind a customised plan was devised.

-       Donor oocyte retrieval from the ovaries

-       Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) on the resulting embryos to check for chromosomal abnormalities.

-       Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy of the uterus to enhance the thickness of the endometrial lining using the patient's own blood.

This approach significantly improved the likelihood of successful implantation.

Of the four embryos retrieved, two were healthy and suitable for transfer. Following the transfer, every couple has to wait for at least 14 days to confirm pregnancy. Finally a positive pregnancy test confirmed their success! The joy doubled when an ultrasound revealed they were expecting twins! Now in her fourth month, the mother is receiving routine care, and both babies are thriving.

Reflecting on this case, Dr. Prachi Benara said, "Some couples face more challenges than others in fulfilling their dreams of parenthood. That is where we step in. We are here to offer hope, innovative solutions, and personalised care. It is our patient’s trust that drives us to deliver complete and professional care."
