Chess star Padmini marries Mumbai techie

Eminent chess player from Odisha, Padmini Rout, tied the nuptial knot with Jaikishin Mankani of Mumbai here on Sunday.

The wedding was solemnised as per the Vedic tradition at a hotel. Mankani works in the IT sector, sources said.

Many well-known chess stars from several parts of the country attended the wedding ceremony.

Padmini (30) has been decorated with International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster titles in chess. She had won the National Women’s Premier title for four times within 2014 and 2017. She was the Asian women’s champion for the year 2018.

Padmini started playing chess at a very early age. She had played for the Indian National Team at Women’s Chess Olympiad, Women’s World Team Chess Championship and Women’s Asian Team Chess Championship.

Padmini, a commerce graduate, was felicitated with the Biju Patnaik Sports Award for the year 2007.
