Himachal Excise Department seizes a major haul of over 1 lakh liters of illicit liquor

The Himachal State Taxes and Excise Department officials on Wednesday conducted an operation led by Excise Commissioner Dr. Yunus in the Gagwal, Ullehrian and Tyora of Mand area of Tehsil Indora, within the revenue district of Nurpur seized over one lakh and one thousand liters of illicit liquor (lahan).

In a statement, Dr. Yunus informed that the seized liquor, valued at approximately Rs. one crore, was spilled thereafter. The operation also resulted in the confiscation of 50 thousand liters of country liquor from Gagwal area, 41 thousand liters from Ullehrian, and 10 thousand liters from Tyora. Excise Commissioner said that this evening the team has commenced another search operation in a residence located in the Mand area of Indora in which 2044 litre of liquor (lahan) was seized. He emphasized that stringent legal action was taken against all individuals implicated in the illicit liquor trade.

The Excise Department has initiated a massive campaign to crack down on illicit liquor businesses and freebies, with a focus on tightening the grip on offenders. Working closely with the community, the department is maintaining vigilant surveillance, with Dr. Yunus personally overseeing search operations.

The Excise Commissioner emphasized the department's commitment to ensuring free and fair elections in Himachal Pradesh. He said that since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect, 59 teams were constituted by the department was actively working to seize those engaged in illegal liquor trade, both within the state and along the bordering areas of Himachal Pradesh. He pledged to continue vigilance and strict enforcement against illegal liquor activities in and around the State.
