Saryu Roy’s party to contest election from Dhanbad

Tuesday, 23 April 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

After days of speculation Jamshedpur East legislator Saryu Roy today announced that his party -- Bharatiya Jantantra Morcha -- will contest elections from the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat. Roy said that the name of the candidate will be announced in the next 24 hours.

Addressing media persons in a press conference in Dhnbad Roy said that a five-member panel of his party will decide the candidate for Dhanbad Lok Sabha constituency. He said that he or his party has not supported Congress candidate Anupama Singh. He admitted that Anupama Singh had definitely come to meet him with her husband Jaimangal Singh. But, he has not promised support to Anupama. Rather, he had blessed them like a daughter-in-law.

The legislator further targeted BJP candidate from Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat Dhullu Mahato and said that according to the affidavit filed by the State General Secretary of BJP in the Election Commission, currently 19 cases are pending against Dhullu Mahato and he has been convicted in two cases only. But, in the year 2022, Dhanbad SP had given a report in the Jharkhand High Court. According to this report, there are many more FIRs registered against Dhullu Mahato.

Roy said that the BJP candidate has been convicted in 4 cases. He said that in the remaining cases, they are much more serious. In some of these cases, Dhullu Mahato could be sentenced to up to 10 years.

Roy said that he himself wants to be the candidate from his party from the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat, but the five-member panel will take a final decision.
