The State reeled under intense heat with mercury soaring to 39 degrees Celsius in some places by 2:30 pm on Friday.
Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature at 39.1 degree Celsius, followed by Chandabali 38.4 degree, Rourkela 37.5 degree, Bhubaneswar 37.4 degree, Keonjhar 37.4 degree and Baleswar 35 degree.
The Regional Office of the IMD here said, "Due to prevailing dry conditions over major parts of the State and high solar insulation, further rise in maximum temperature is likely by 2 degree at a few places over some parts of interior Odisha during the next 48 hours."
Day temperature is likely to hover between 38 and 40 degrees at many place in the interior parts and between 36 to 38 degrees in the coastal districts of Odisha during the next four to five days, the IMD said.
Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail over some districts of the State during the next four to five days, the IMD stated.
Temperatures in certain places in western Odisha may touch 40 degree in the next couple of days. As there will be no meaningful rainfall activities in the first week of April, the temperatures are expected to rise gradually and may cross 40 degree in some places," said the weather office.
