In a major enforcement drive, the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) issued over 150 show-cause notices to property owners in Sushant Lok Phase 2 for a range of violations, including illegal constructions, unauthorised commercial activities and fully covered basements, officials said.
The action was taken under DTCP’s newly launched “office-on-the-spot†campaign, which involves real-time inspections and issuance of notices.
As part of the drive, DTCP’s entire enforcement wing conducted a street-by-street inspection of over 1,000 plots in the area.
“Violations committed by the property owners on various floors were recorded, notices were prepared on the spot and issued,†said District Town Planner (DTP) Amit Madholia. The notices were also physically pasted on the premises in question.
Property owners have been given a one-week window to respond to the notices. “If replies are found unsatisfactory, strict action will be taken as per norms,†Madholia added. He further stated that similar inspections would now be carried out weekly in other residential colonies across Gurugram.
According to DTCP officials, the crackdown was prompted by numerous complaints from local residents. Common violations included the operation of gyms, showrooms, grocery stores, clinics, battery shops and offices from residential premises — activities not permitted under residential zoning.
Authorities also cited misuse of the non-nuisance activity policy, which allows only up to 25 per cent of a residential building’s ground floor to be used for low-impact commercial purposes.
“In many cases, the entire ground floor was found to be converted for commercial use, blatantly violating the prescribed norms,†Madholia said.
“The department has reiterated its commitment to enforcing planning regulations and maintaining the residential character of city neighborhoods,†he added.
