Haryana Industry and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh chaired a high-level review meeting with officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Tuesday to assess the progress of various infrastructure and civic development projects aimed at the overall improvement of Gurugram city.
The meeting focused on key urban infrastructure issues, including road development, water supply, drainage, and sewerage systems.
Stressing the need for accelerated development, Minister Rao directed GMDA officials to expedite all civil infrastructure works and prioritise the timely delivery of public amenities.
Singh emphasised the need for high-quality construction of footpaths and streetscaping along master roads. He also instructed officials to systematically develop slip roads to streamline traffic flow and prevent congestion at key intersections. Special attention was given to the deteriorated road stretch between Basai Sector-10 and Bhukteshwar Chowk, where he directed the preparation of a comprehensive improvement plan covering both road and drainage infrastructure.
During the meeting, GMDA Chief Engineer Arun Dhankhar informed that all roads in Gurugram have been categorized into four zones — Sector 1-23, 24-80, 81-90, and 95-115 — to manage repair and recarpeting works more effectively. Over 100 kilometers of damaged roads have already been repaired as part of the ongoing infrastructure upgrade.
Significant progress has also been made in augmenting the city’s water supply. Officials reported that the commissioning of Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Unit-4 at Chandu Budhera has added 90 MLD to the city’s supply, raising total capacity from 570 MLD to 660 MLD.
This has led to marked improvements in water availability in Sectors 81-115 and several parts of old Gurugram.
“Construction of Unit 5 (100 MLD) is expected to be completed by December, while tenders have been floated for Unit 4 (100 MLD) at the Basai WTP,” the officials informed the minister.
Minister Rao also highlighted the need for long-term planning and asked officials to ensure preparedness for Gurugram’s projected water demand of 1170 MLD by 2031.
With the monsoon season underway, the minister placed strong emphasis on flood preparedness. He directed GMDA to ensure regular cleaning of all drains and widen road and drain mouths to facilitate the quick discharge of rainwater. A review was also conducted on the cleaning work of temporary drains and bridges by NHAI in the Narsinghpur area.
