Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday directed the officers concerned to prepare a proposal and send it to the Central Government for the establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in the State. He assured that the state government is ready to provide the necessary land for this initiative.
Presiding over a meeting of the Higher Education Department, he said that the present State Government has taken several significant steps to provide quality education to students, resulting in an increased trust in government educational institutions. Saini urged the Vice-Chancellors to focus not only on education but also on research, innovation, and skill development for students.
He emphasized the need to allocate a separate fund for these purposes. Furthermore, he encouraged the Vice-Chancellors to motivate students to establish their own startups, highlighting that many young people today are earning substantial incomes without any initial investment. The Chief Minister also assured that the State Government would work towards the internationalization of higher education by providing world-class facilities in universities to accommodate a larger number of foreign students.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of skill development for the youth to enhance their employability. The State Government has fostered a conducive environment for industries, making Haryana a preferred destination for both Indian and international companies to establish their units. This growth has created a demand for trained manpower to meet the expanding needs of these industries.
To address this, the State Government has established Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU) in Dudhola village, Palwal district, to provide skill education to students.
While emphasizing the importance of student counseling, he urged teachers to guide students on the various career options available to them, helping them choose the right path for the future and avoid being misguided. The State Government has decided to open e-libraries in all schools and colleges across the state in a phased manner.
Seeks suggestions from Vice-Chancellors for upcoming State Budget
The Chief Minister said that the state budget for 2025-26 will prioritize education, ensuring that quality education is provided to children in line with the National Education Policy. He also invited suggestions from all Vice Chancellors to enhance the education system. In the meeting, the Chief Minister also sought suggestions from Vice-Chancellors for the upcoming State Budget and assured that the best suggestions would be incorporated. Suggestions have been invited through an online portal, which has already received around 10,000 submissions.
He said that all provisions of the National Education Policy should be fully implemented across universities and colleges, with the goal of transforming Haryana into a global education hub, offering specialized training in AI and modern skills.
Saini said that the future lies in horticultural crops and stressed the need to raise awareness among farmers about adopting crop diversification instead of traditional farming. The Horticulture University could play a pivotal role in this initiative. The first phase of the India International Horticulture Market, currently being built in Ganaur, will soon be inaugurated, bringing significant benefits to horticulture farmers. The increased export of fruits and vegetables will enhance their income. In this direction, the Horticulture University should focus on research related to the fruits and vegetables grown in various regions of Haryana.
