PM Modi should take responsibility for Pahalgam attack: Kharge

Wednesday, 07 May 2025 | PNS | Ranchi

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge today said about the Pahalgam terror attack that despite intelligence inputs, adequate security arrangements were not made for the tourists - in such a situation, the Prime Minister (PM) should take responsibility for the deaths in the attack.

At the 'Samvidhan Bachao Rally' organized in the State Capital on Tuesday, Kharge directly raised questions on the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kharge said, "In the all-party meeting, the central government itself accepted that there was an intelligence lapse. If the lapse has been accepted, then responsibility should also be taken. It has been printed in the newspapers that the possibility of an attack was expressed three days ago. The Prime Minister cancelled his visit, but no steps were taken for the safety of the common people."

Kharge said that the Congress will support the government in every strict action against terrorism - whether it is against Pakistan or on any other front. But the question is, when the government had the warning, why was security not provided?

Addressing the rally, the Congress President also cornered the Central Government on caste census. He said that it is the victory of the Congress that caste based census has now become a priority of the Center. "Earlier BJP leaders used to say that they are dividing the public by talking about caste, but now the same government is adding a column of caste," he said.

Kharge said that the Congress has written a letter to the Prime Minister and put forth three main demands which are an all-party meeting should be held to prepare a model for caste census, backward, Dalit, tribals and poor should get reservation in private institutions as well and the limit of 50 per cent on reservation should be removed.

On the ED action in the National Herald case, the Congress President said that this is a direct attack on independent journalism and freedom of expression. “Today, cases are being registered against Sonia Gandhi for running the newspapers which Nehru ji started to make them the voice of freedom. ED files 200 cases across the Country, but only two percent get convicted.”

Kharge also described the arrest of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren as politically motivated and said that the BJP Government cannot see a tribal leader in power. He accused the Central Government of working against the Constitution and crushing the voice of democracy.

On the occasion, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that today the Constitution is in danger, democracy is in danger. Taking a dig at the BJP, he said that they want to drown everyone. They behave like enemies.

Taking a dig at BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, Baghel said that hundreds of soldiers were deployed for security on the wedding anniversary, but not a single security for the common man. Not a single effective step has been taken even after 15 days of the Pahalgam incident. We are all one in this time of crisis.

On this occasion, leader of the legislative party Pradeep Yadav and state president Keshav Mahato Kamlesh also expressed their views. Rajesh Kachhap gave the vote of thanks.
